Chapter 15

Verity’s POV

I know what I have to do.

I have to reject him.

Even thinking the words sends a chill to my heart, I don’t know if I can do this. I just know I have to. To protect him, to keep him safe I have to let him go.

I can’t let him die, I won’t.

After just a few days he already means everything to me, and I am already willing to give up everything for him.

What if Molly’s right? What if I could run away with him?

Sighing I collapsed on the bed, there is no way he would let me leave here. I have to reject Alexi, it’s the only way to make sure he doesn’t get dragged into my life.

I need to find him before I talk myself out of this.

Checking my makeup one last time, making sure every bruise is covered and unnoticeable I walk out of my room to find my mate.

Goddess forgive me.

The packhouse was almost empty, lunch had finished, and everyone was going about the rest of their day.

When I couldn’t find him inside, I thought maybe he had left, until I saw him sitting in the garden.

His face was etched in such a sad expression it took everything in me not to comfort him. I have brought him nothing but pain, and now I’m going to give him more.

How is it fair he looks like that? How can someone be so handsome, sexy and cute at the same time.

He straightened in his seat as I approached him. The hope in his eyes as they met mine was crippling.

“Verity, are you okay?”

Everything I had planned to say vanished from my mind, leaving me lost for words.

My voice came out barely above a whisper. “I, I’m sorry for running.”

His face softens as he reached an arm out to me.

“You don’t have to apologise, but if something is wrong you can tell me Love. I promise I will do everything I can to help you.”

The honesty in his voice broke my heart, I couldn’t stop the tears in my eyes from falling as I began to sob.

His arms wrapped around me as he lifted me into his lap, resting my head on his chest I allowed myself to find comfort in him.

Placing soft kisses on my forehead he whispered to me.

“Shhs it’s okay, you’re okay. I promise you; I will keep you safe Love.”

I do not deserve this man; I will never deserve this man. I’m nothing, I’m not even a wolf. How can I have been paired with him? He’s a beta! I’m not even considered good enough to be an Omega.

We stayed like that for the longest time, just taking comfort in each other. His hands traced my back until they touch one of my bruises and I involuntarily winced.

His chest shook as a growl slipped from his lips.

“Are you hurt?”

I shook my head but before I could respond the sound of an alarm interrupted our conversation. Alexi jumped up, placing me firmly on my feet.
